🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia — Guide for Pilgrims & Travelers

Makkah, Medina, Jeddah, Riyadh — everything you need to know before your journey

Saudi Arabia — The Heart of Islam

Saudi Arabia is the spiritual center of the Muslim world, home to the two holiest cities in Islam: Makkah (Mecca) and Medina. Every year, millions of Muslims from around the world travel to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah and Hajj — the sacred pilgrimages commanded by Allah in the Quran.

Beyond its religious significance, Saudi Arabia is a country of remarkable diversity: from the ancient Nabataean city of Hegra, to the modern skyline of Riyadh, to the coral reefs of the Red Sea near Jeddah. Saudi Vision 2030 has dramatically expanded tourism opportunities, and a new e-Visa makes it easier than ever for international visitors to travel there.

🌡️ Climate & Best Time to Visit

Saudi Arabia has a desert climate with very hot summers (June–August, up to 45°C/113°F in Makkah). The best times for pilgrimage are October–March when temperatures are cooler (15–30°C). Ramadan (March/April in 2026) is spiritually the most rewarding time for Umrah, despite the heat.

Key Cities for Pilgrims

🕋

Makkah (Mecca)

The holiest city in Islam — birthplace of the Prophet ﷺ and home of Masjid al-Haram and the Kaaba. Non-Muslims are not permitted to enter. Pilgrims spend the majority of their Umrah and Hajj time here.

Key sites: Kaaba, Masjid al-Haram, Mount Arafat, Mina, Muzdalifah, Jabal al-Nour (Cave of Hira), Zamzam Well.

Key sites: Masjid al-Nabawi, Al-Baqi cemetery, Quba Mosque, Masjid al-Qiblatain.
